iPhone 5 concept

iPhone 5 concept

An unnamed source who is working at a Foxconn plant in China, has revealed some information of the future generation iPhone. The next generation iPhone goes currently by the name of iPhone 5.

The Foxconn employee described the iPhone 5 like this:

  • 4-inch (or bigger) screen manufactured by LG (and possibly other manufacturers)
  • longer and wider than the iPhone 4S
  • unlike some rumors, the iPhone 5 will not have a teardrop shape
  • symmetrical thickness
  • many different samples going around, none which are final
  • currently being geared for production

9to5Mac told that the source is the same one who leaked that Apple will not release the iPhone 5 in the summer of 2011. This turned out to be true when Apple announced the iPhone 4S in October.

If what is mentioned above is true, then we’ll likely see the next generation iPhone released this summer! Expect a lot of leaks before this happens ;)

Absinthe A5 jailbreak

The day of an untethered iPhone 4S and iPad 2 jailbreak is finally here! Absinthe A5 was today released, and it finally brings an untethered solution for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 owners wanting to jailbreak their device.

Absinthe A5 can jailbreak an iPhone 4S running iOS 5.0 (9A334) and 5.0.1 (9A405 and 9A 406), and an iPad 2 running iOS 5.0.1 (9A405). The untethered part means that you don’t have to re-jailbreak every time after you’ve rebooted your device, the jailbreak will stay until you update/reinstall iOS.

Please follow this link to download Absinthe A5 for iPhone 4S and iPad 2. The app is currently Mac-only, but a Windows version should follow soon.

Nissan has announced the world’s first self-healing iPhone case called the Nissan Scratch Shield iPhone case. The case is made of polyrotaxane, which has previously been used on a selection of Nissan and Infinity models.

Fine scratches will be able to heal in mere hours, while more deep scratches can take a few days to heal. The new iPhone case is currently in testing, and if proven successful amongst the testers, will it hit store shelves later this year.

iOS Facebook integration

iOS Facebook integration

iMore has found evidence of a deep Facebook integration coming into iOS. Apple added Twitter support in iOS 5, so it is great to see that we could see Facebook in the next major version of iOS.

Twitter user @jackoplane is the one who found code indicating the Facebook integration in the iPad version of iOS 5.1 beta 3. It remains to be seen if it will actually be added in iOS 5.1, or if Apple will save it for a future version.

iPhone 4 Alarm Bug DST

Still remember that alarm bug that caused so many iPhone uses to oversleep a year ago? The bug is again active and has caused alarms to fail on January 1st and 2nd. However, iOS 4.2.1 seems to be the only version that is causing it, so if you’d run the newest version, you wouldn’t have these problems! I guess its time for everyone to update to the major new software version called iOS 5. This also means that owners of older equipment than iPhone 3GS are left with a faulty alarm, sorry. The problem will yet again self-corrent on January 3rd.

BGR has talked with the oh so heavily cited source close to Apple’s plans. They learned that the next generation iPhone will launch in the fall 2012, roughly at the same time as the iPhone 4S was, meaning early October 2012.

They also say that the next generation iPhone will get a complete redesign. Gone are the days when the phones were made of easily shattering glass. The next-gen iPhone will come with a rubber or plastic material built into the new case. The back of the phone will be made of aluminum, similar to the one found on the iPad 2. The rubber in the case will allow for the antenna to work even though they’re blocking the signals through the back with the use of aluminum. Earlier rumors also suggest that we’ll see the iPhone come in a nice 4-inch flavor, instead of the same old 3.5-inch screen that all the previous iPhones have had.

Flurry iOS and Android activations

Android and iOS activations in December by Flurry

Flurry Analytics released their analysis on iOS and Android device activations on Christmas Day. According to their study, 6.8 million iOS and Android devices were activated on Christmas Day. That’s over 78 combined iOS and Android activations every single second! On average, 1.5 million devices were activated a day between December 1st and December 20th. The growth from 1.5 to 6.8 million means an increase of 353 percent!

Application downloads also increased a staggering 252 percent to 242 million on Christmas Day. Christmas is crazy, isn’t it!?

pod2g finally released his long awaited untethered jailbreak, Corona 1.0, for iOS 5.0.1. This new jailbreak will bring an untethered solution for everything pre-A5, meaning that it will not work on iPhone 4S or iPad 2. The reason for why it doesn’t work on these two devices is that Apple did some security tightening on their new A5 SoC. A fully working solution for the A5 has yet to be found.

Those of you wanting to jailbreak anything pre-A5 can download this new jailbreak from either Chronic Dev team or The Dev Team.

Apple just released a new ad to promote Siri, their biggest new feature in iPhone 4S. It is a great ad featuring Santa and his busy schedule for Christmas :)
