Apple’s this year’s WWDC ended today. To celebrate this day, the iPhone-Dev Team decided to release their first jailbreak for iOS 5. RedSn0w 0.9.8 will fulfill your jailbreaking needs on the following devices running the first iOS 5 beta:
- iPod touch 3G
- iPod touch 4G
- iPad 1
- iPhone 3GS
- iPhone4 (GSM)
- iPhone4 (CDMA)
The jailbreak is so far untethered, meaning that you will need to re-jailbreak it every time you need to reboot your device. Too bad if you run out of battery while on the go ;)
A link to download and installation instructions can be found here.

Sports Tracker is the best tracking solution available for Symbian devices. It is a software project once started by Nokia, but later moved to become an own company. Now this highly popular Symbian app is also available for the iPhone. It can be found as a free application in the Apple App Store. The developers behind this application also promised that the Android version should be finished soon.

MuscleNerd just tweeted that the iOS 5 beta that was released yesterday, has now been jailbroken. MuscleNerd confirmed this on his twitter, by showing the image you see embedded above. You’ll see Cydia and iSSH together with the iOS 5 only app Newsstand.
Limera1n + tethered boot seemed to do the trick on a 4th generation iPod touch with iOS 5 beta. Apple can of course still plug this security hole before the final release.
Here is the tweet:

The Apple World Wide Developer’s Conference is about to begin. We know for a fact that Apple will announce the next version of both the desktop operating system and iOS. Their new iCloud service will also be announced. Some one who’s on site managed to take the pic you see above. It is clearly a banner, but why is it covered? Could Apple be prepeared for a “one more thing” announcement at the end of the keynote? The famous One More Thing has previously been used to announce, for ins the iPod Touch, iPod Shuffle, MacBook Pro

Los Angeles Times reported today that Apple’s iCloud service will be free for a limited time. They didn’t state how long this will be, but it is intended as a free introductory offer. Apple will start to charge $25 per year for the service when the free-tier is over. The iCloud service will also be ad-supported. So even though you are paying $25 a year, you will still be seeing ads. DropBox and Microsoft’s Skydrive are both totally free of charge.
We will know much more next Monday, June 6, afterApple’s WWDC keynote. We will see iCloud, iOS 5 and Mac OS X Lion announced at this keynote.

Apple is set to reveal Mac OS X Lion, iOS 5 and iCloud. iCloud will be Apple’s new cloud service, most probably replacing MobileMe with more features and better integration.
I find it interesting to see that the new iOS logo still has the same old waterdrop background as seen in the previous iOS versions. Seems like a true weather blend with extreme Sahara dryness (Mac OS X Lion), rain (iOS 5) and cloudy (iCloud), for this year’s WWDC!

Apple has today hit a rather big milestone with its App Store. According to unofficial sources, Apple today approved the 500,000th app to the App Store. However, due to withdrawals, replacements etc., the actual number of downloadable content is roughly 400,000.
Apple could announce this officially at next week’s WWDC, the biggest developer conference organized by Apple.
