HTC has recently been pushing out a new device once every few weeks. This pace is way too much, and now the company has finally noticed it themselves. TheNextWeb has now learned that the company will actually focus on bringing less devices to the market in 2012. Here’s what they wrote:

We have to get back to focusing on what made us great – amazing hardware and a great customer experience. We ended 2011 with far more products than we started out with. We tried to do too much.

So 2012 is about giving our customers something special. We need to make sure we do not go so far down the line that we segment our products by launching lots of different [phones].

Now let’s just wait for that “something special”, shall we? MWC is hopefully the next event where HTC will release something. Can’t wait ’till that!

HTC Primo

The mobile industry is eagerly waiting for their yearly announcement party, also known as Mobile World Congress. Today we have yet another device that is rumored to be officially announced at the event in question, and this device is the HTC Primo.

The HTC Primo is said to come with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, a 3.7-inch Super AMOLED display, a 5-megapixel camera with 720p video, 1 GHz dual-core CPU and 512MB RAM. The rumored price for this is £250. The availability remains unknown.

Windows Phone 7.5 logo official

Currently one of the biggest missing features from Windows Phone is 4G LTE connectivity. In my opinion this isn’t a big deal, but it does become quite an effective weapon when someone’s trying to bash Windows Phone. Luckily, this is about to change in the near future. We already know that Nokia’s Ace will be one of the first to bring LTE to Windows Phone. Now we’re hearing that also Samsung and HTC has LTE products in the pipeline.

HTC is working on a phone currently called Radiant. Samsung again is working on Mandel. Not much is currently know of HTC’s Radiant. Samsung’s Mandel is said to come with a really big screen, even bigger than 4.3-inches. Both phones should run a pre-Tango version of Windows Phone, with the only difference from Mango being LTE connectivity. Can’t say if this is true or false. We’ll just have to wait.

We’re expecting to hear more of these devices at CES in just a few weeks time! Stay tuned!

BGR received intel from a trusted source that HTC is preparing to switch their smartphone strategy a bit in 2012. HTC will focus on quality instead of quantity. BGR’s sources told that HTC will be ‘shockingly quiet’ for most of the first quarter. The company will release fewer phones in 2012 when compared to 2011.

HTC is currently preparing a HTC Titan-like smartphone with a 4.7-inch screen and 4G LTE and Windows Phone and targeted for AT&T. The device is expected to release on February 5th, meaning a likely announcement should come at CES.

HTC is also working on an Android flagship called the HTC Elite. This would run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and come with Beats Audio. AT&T would also pick this device, and a suggested name is the “HTC Congressional.” The launch for this flagship device is currently scheduled for the first or second week of April.

HTC Thunderbolt v2.11.605.9

HTC Thunderbolt v2.11.605.9

Verizon Wireless is about to push out a new firmware for their HTC Thunderbolt. The update will up the software numbering to 2.11.605.9.

The 36MB OTA update will bring at least the following changes:

  • Resolved issue with contact ringtones.
  • Improvements to notification volume.
  • Update to the local streaming playback mechanism when network connection is not available.
  • Updated Twitter API for Peep/FriendStream (part of Sense UI)
  • Clock app included in All App list.
  • Improvements in Exchange ActiveSync.

Keep on checking to see if your device is ready to download this!

HTC Desire HDHTC has started pushing out Android 2.3.5 for unbranded Desire HDs. We also get HTC’s own Sense 3.0 delivered with this update. Check to see if your device is ready to receive the update! Happy updating!

(BTW, I will spend the weekend in Singapore. I currently have a horrible WiFi connection at my hotel, it feels like a 56k modem. I will post some news, but you will not get as many as you’re used to. It takes a really long time just to fire up a single webpage and the admin panel. I will be back with full force next Tuesday. Stay tuned! )

HTC Flyer

HTC Flyer

The HTC Flyer was released way back in May with Android 2.2 Froyo. Soon after this the company announced that they’re bringing Android 3.2 Honeycomb to it, and today is the day when the update arrives. The update should now be available as an OTA update that weighs in at 210MB. Happy updating!

HTC Ville

Pocketnow has once again secured a render of a still unannounced device. This time it is the HTC Ville that has leaked. The device above comes with a 4.3-inch qHD Super AMOLED screen, 1.5 GHz dual-code Snapdragon S4, 8-megapixel rear camera, 1650mAh battery, and Beats Audio technology.

The device will come with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on board. Even though its not required in ICS, this device appears to have capacitive buttons at the bottom.

Maybe the coolest thing about this is that it will be the thinnest smartphone till date, measuring in at under 8mm in thickness. For comparison, the iPhone 4S is 9.2mm, the Samsung Galaxy S II is 8.49mm to 9.91mm.

We’re expecting to see this announced at MWC 2012, and launched in April.

HTC SensationEuropean HTC Sensation owners should check to see if they have an update for their device. This should be the case since HTC released version 1.50.401.1 in the usual HTC style, which is over-the-air.

Evgeni Pavlov, Product Manager at HTC Russia, tweeted that this particular update will include the following: “Twitter API, Qualcomm patch, Touch panel drivers, Market v.3 apps availability”. Happy updating!
