Apple is known to launch a new iPhone each year in June or July. The first exception to this pattern happened last year with the announcement of the iPhone 4S, which was announced in October. Japanese website Macotakara reports now that the iPhone 5 will be released in September or October of this year, meaning that it will come roughly one year after the iPhone 4S. According to their sources the iPhone has now shifted into a fall release cycle.
How would it feel to get a new iPhone in the fall instead of the usual summer time frame?
Another day, another iPad 3 rumor. Today we get side by side pictures of the iPad 2 and iPad 3.
The image above (and below) shows that the iPad 3 will be a little bit thicker than the iPad 2. MacRumors estimates that the difference in thickness is roughly 1-1.5mm. The increased thickness is probably caused by a larger battery, and the brighter backlight that the high resolution screen needs.
Current rumors suggest that we’ll see the iPad 3 announced on March 7th.

Possibly the biggest question about the iPad 3 is currently whether or not it will have a quad-core A6 system-on-chip. A leak today indicates that it will not have an A6 inside, but something that is labeled A5X instead.
The A5X name leads us to believe that this is just a slight upgrade to the original A5 that is currently found inside the iPad 2. A beefed up A5 with an extra powerful GPU would certainly be enough to power the high resolution Retina Display of the iPad 3. This A5X scenario would also be a win for lower power consumption. A dual-core chip does not eat as much as a quad-core chip.
Apple is expected to announce the iPad 3 on March 7th. Stay tuned for more leaks of this nature!
More and more information is leaking of the iPad 3. Apple Daily reports now that the iPad 3 will come with an 8-megapixel camera. The sensor is likely the same Sony camera that is currently baked into the iPhone 4S. The image above shows the back of the iPad 3. As you can see, the camera sensor is much bigger, and the device is even more tapered. Will Apple have any surprises left when they announce the iPad 3 on March 7th?
MacRumors has managed to obtain a display that is going to be found on the iPad 3. The display looks roughtly the same to the naked eye, but when inspected under magnification, you’ll see that the pixel density is different. For every four pixels on the iPad 2, there will be sixteen pixels on the iPad 3. This means that when we today have a resolution of 1024×768, we’ll get 2048×1536 on the iPad 3.
The iPad 3 is expected to be announced on March 7th.
BGR has an interesting article called “What I know about the iPad 3″. They spill out some juicy details of the next generation iPad, which is expected to be released March 7th.
Here’s a short summary of their findings:
Retina Display at a resolution of 2048 x 1536 (FullHD is 1920 x 1080)
4G LTE
3.2 or 5.0 megapixel rear-facing camera, HD FaceTime capable front-facing camera
WiFi and Cellular models, just like in today’s models
The CPU causes the biggest fight currently. Is it a quad-core A6 or a dual-core A5 with a beefed up GPU? BGR’s sources say that a new quad-core A6 will provide the processing power for the iPad 3
Much larger battery
Same design as on the iPad 2, just a little bit thicker (< +1mm)
iOS 5.1 obviously to include support for the new hardware. Simultaneous release for iPhone and iPod touch
Siri for iPad, or at least text dictation
And all of this for the same price as the iPad 2? Sounds nice!
