VLC is coming to the iPhone in the very near future! It has actually already been submitted to the App Store, and is only waiting for Apple’s approval.
iSupply has calculated the material cost for the Nokia N8, and come up with a figure of $187.47. Materials to this thing were supplied by companies like Samsung Electronics Co., Toshiba Corp. and Texas Instruments Inc..
The most expensive part inside the N8 is it’s 3.5″ AMOLED screen. The screen is produced by Samsung, and costs $39.25.
For instance the iPhone 4 costs $187.51. Even though they cost equally much to produce, the iPhone is around 100€ more expensive here in Finland. The Nokia N8 sells currently for 498€, while the cheapest iPhone 4 is 576€.
The chipset costs $22. That includes all that is needed for the phone to run and also push the HDMI signal out. The 16GB internal memory costs $37.12, while the camera costs $31.08.
Microsoft went ahead and confirmed that they will release syncing tools for OSX. This is not the Zune software, but just a syncin software.
Microsoft released the following statement, ”Later in 2010 Microsoft will make a public beta available of a tool that allows Windows Phone 7 to sync select content with Mac computers”.
CNet added to that:
In fact, Microsoft has been working on a piece of Mac software that will allow certain content to be shared with a Windows Phone 7 device.
Microsoft’s Zune software for Windows is still the primary means of connecting with a Windows Phone–allowing users not only to upload content but to update their phones and purchase apps, music, and video as well
According to a report by SquareTrade, largest independent warranty provider in the world, the iPhone 4 breaks more easily than its predecessor, the iPhone 3GS. The iPhone 4 breaks 82 precent more than the iPhone 3GS.
Highlights of the study include:
I broke my iPhone 4 during the first two months. I’ve had the 3G and 3GS both for over a year, and I never broke those.. Be careful with your iPhone 4!
Chronic Dev Team just announced that GreenPois0n for iOS 4.1 is now available to download for Windows comptuers. The Mac version is currently unavailable, but should follow later.
Sorry about the Mac button on the website. It is not yet available, but it is being worked on, hang tight. We appreciate your patience.
greenpois0n only works on firmware 4.1, so (only if you have an iPhone 4!) if you are on a lower firmware make sure you use TinyUmbrella to preserve your baseband.

Initially, this will be a Windows-only release. This is due to some technical complications that we soon hope to correct. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Thanks to geohot for the bootrom USB exploit. We have opted to use that instead of SHAtter for the sake of exploit presevation.
This release of greenpois0n supports:
- iPhone 4
- iPhone 3G S
- iPod touch (4th Generation)
- iPod touch (3rd Generation)
- iPad
Soon there will be another release, adding things like support for:
- Apple TV (2nd Generation)
- iPod touch (2nd Generation)
Geoh0t today released the first official jailbreak for ever iOS 4.1 device available. The best thing about this jailbreak is that Apple can’t fix this without a hardware update. So, if you now own an iPhone 4, it will be jailbreakable for the rest of your life :)
Here is what geoh0t wrote on his site:
limera1n, 6 months in the making
iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 3G, iPad, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4G
4.0-4.1 and beyond+++
limera1n is unpatchable
untethered thanks to jailbreakme star comex
released today to get chronicdev to do the right thing
brought to you by geohot
hacktivates
Mac coming soon
follow the instructions in the box, sadly limera1n isn’t one click
that’s the price of unpatchability

AppleTV is technically supported, but theres no apps yet
zero pictures of my face
The limera1n jailbreak is currently only available on Windows, but a Mac version should be coming in the near future (you can use a virtualization software on you Mac until a Mac version is available).
Here is what you need to do, to jailbreak your iPhone 4 on iOS 4.1:
Last week the rumored Verizon iPhone was again brought to life by Wall Street Journal. Now, the New York Times confirmed this rumor with the following comment:
After more than three years of using only AT&T cellphone networks, Apple is now making a version of the iPhone 4 for Verizon’s network, according to a person who is in direct contact with Apple. Apple and Verizon will begin selling the phone early next year, said the person, who agreed to speak on condition of anonymity because the plans were supposed to be confidential and he did not want to alienate his contacts at Apple.
Verizon CEO, Ivan Seidenberg, will hold a keynote at CES on January 6th, 2011. Maybe this is the date the CDMA iPhone will be announced?
George Hotz, aka GeoH0t, makes a pretty interesting comeback to the jailbreak scene by announcing Limera1n for every iOS 4.1 device currently available. Chronic Dev Team has confirmed that the jailbreak is actually working.
GeoH0t promised to release Limera1n for iOS 4.1 on October 11th (1 day after GreenPois0n is released). This also marks the one-year birthday of Blackra1n.
The sad thing about this is that GeoH0t “burns” one unpatched hole in iOS 4.1. He could have waited for the next iPad, iPhone 5 or the CDMA iPhone (Verizon).
As dramatic as geohot’s last-minute all-device JB is, still a shame that two bootrom holes will be burned at once.
Joshua Hill, aka p0sixninja, today told on his twitter account that the GreenPois0n Jailbreak will go public on October 10th (10/10/10) at 10:10:10 AM GMT.
The greenpois0n jailbreak will be able to hack your iPhone 4, iPad and iPod touch 4G. Unfortunately older iPhone and iPod touch versions aren’t supported by this jailbreak. There’s also a possibility that greenpois0n can jailbreak the new Apple TV, but it’s yet to be confirmed.
The best part about the greenpois0n jailbreak is that it will provide a lifetime jailbreak door for current generation iPhone 4 users! Apple will need to fix this hole with a new hardware revision, which means that devices currently available will be jailbreakable for ever :)
AT&T has been the only operator to sell the iPhone in the US, ever since it first launched in 2007. Now, this is about to change when Verizon will get the iPhone in the beginning of next year. Apple is said to begin mass-production of an CDMA iPhone, dedicated for Verizon, before this year’s end. The Verizon iPhone is said to be design wise equal to the iPhone 4, but with a CDMA radio chip.
Apple and Verizon has yet to confirm this, but according to WSJ the deal is sealed.
