Waterproof iPhone 3GS

Waterproof iPhone 3GS

Rumors are flying around all the time. Some of these prove to be correct, while the majority are just products of someone’s imagination. The newest rumor comes apparently from an anonymous tipster working for a large UK retailer, who claims that both the Apple iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S III will be waterproof.

The waterproof will not be achieved in the usual way by sealing the case, but by applying a special nano coating covering the chips, which then would be impenetrable by water.

Apple doesn’t have a waterproof product on the market, but Samsung has a selection of mobile phones that are waterproof. The Samsung Galaxy Xcover for instance is IP67 certified, meaning that it can last 30 minutes in 1m deep water.

With every manufacturer competing with who has the thinnest smartphone available, is it possible that we’ll see a flagship that is waterproof?

iPhone 5 concept

iPhone 5 concept

An unnamed source who is working at a Foxconn plant in China, has revealed some information of the future generation iPhone. The next generation iPhone goes currently by the name of iPhone 5.

The Foxconn employee described the iPhone 5 like this:

  • 4-inch (or bigger) screen manufactured by LG (and possibly other manufacturers)
  • longer and wider than the iPhone 4S
  • unlike some rumors, the iPhone 5 will not have a teardrop shape
  • symmetrical thickness
  • many different samples going around, none which are final
  • currently being geared for production

9to5Mac told that the source is the same one who leaked that Apple will not release the iPhone 5 in the summer of 2011. This turned out to be true when Apple announced the iPhone 4S in October.

If what is mentioned above is true, then we’ll likely see the next generation iPhone released this summer! Expect a lot of leaks before this happens ;)

Here’s yet another Apple-bashing Galaxy S II ad from Samsung. I don’t find this as funny as the earlier ones, but it’s still worth checking out. Samsung, keep ‘em coming!

Samsung is continuing their jabs at Apple with their new “Samsunged” ad. This time around the company tackles inbuilt turn-by-turn navigation apps, and once again managed to make the ad funny. I love it! :)

Absinthe A5 jailbreak

The day of an untethered iPhone 4S and iPad 2 jailbreak is finally here! Absinthe A5 was today released, and it finally brings an untethered solution for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 owners wanting to jailbreak their device.

Absinthe A5 can jailbreak an iPhone 4S running iOS 5.0 (9A334) and 5.0.1 (9A405 and 9A 406), and an iPad 2 running iOS 5.0.1 (9A405). The untethered part means that you don’t have to re-jailbreak every time after you’ve rebooted your device, the jailbreak will stay until you update/reinstall iOS.

Please follow this link to download Absinthe A5 for iPhone 4S and iPad 2. The app is currently Mac-only, but a Windows version should follow soon.

Japanese blog Macotakara claims that Apple is preparing to announce the next generation iPad in early February. Macotakara cited sources from within Apple’s supply chain.

Apple will also use this event to release the final version of iOS 5.1. We’re expecting to see a slightly thicker case, twice bigger battery capacity, a 2,048 x 1,563-pixel HD screen, and  possibly a quad-core CPU inside the iPad 3. A few more weeks to the alleged announcement.

iOS Facebook integration

iOS Facebook integration

iMore has found evidence of a deep Facebook integration coming into iOS. Apple added Twitter support in iOS 5, so it is great to see that we could see Facebook in the next major version of iOS.

Twitter user @jackoplane is the one who found code indicating the Facebook integration in the iPad version of iOS 5.1 beta 3. It remains to be seen if it will actually be added in iOS 5.1, or if Apple will save it for a future version.

iPhone 4 Alarm Bug DST

Still remember that alarm bug that caused so many iPhone uses to oversleep a year ago? The bug is again active and has caused alarms to fail on January 1st and 2nd. However, iOS 4.2.1 seems to be the only version that is causing it, so if you’d run the newest version, you wouldn’t have these problems! I guess its time for everyone to update to the major new software version called iOS 5. This also means that owners of older equipment than iPhone 3GS are left with a faulty alarm, sorry. The problem will yet again self-corrent on January 3rd.

I’m not sure if the parts in the video are real, but they are claimed to replacement parts of the next generation iPad. If this turns out to be true, then we’ll still have the same old 30-pin dock-connector on the iPad 3.

According to recent rumors, we’re about to get two new iPad models in early 2012. Digitimes writes that the new iPads will be released on January 26th at MacWorld/iWorld.

If their sources are correct, we’ll see a 9.7-inch screen at QXGA resolution, which translates into 1,536 x 2,048 pixels. The display is lit by a dual LED setup to make it bright enough with this new resolution. Other new features include a new Apple A6-CPU, two cameras (5 or 8-megapixel camera, deepening on the model), and a supercharged battery at 14,000mAh. The iPad 2 currently comes with a 6,500mAh battery inside, meaning that Apple will more than double the capacity of the battery!

The rumors didn’t suggest what else than the camera will differ in these two new iPad 3 models. Just under a month to go before the rumored announcement!
