Google jumped the gun a bit faster than expected when they today released the source code of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Earlier rumors suggested that we’ll see the source code released on November 17th. The source code can be obtained from the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) repository.

The released of the source code luckily means that work on the next version of 3rd party Android modifications can begin. I think it is safe to say that work on CyanogenMod 9 has now also began. Smart phone manufacturers can now also start porting their software and prepare to release updates to bring Android 4.0 on board their devices.

Ever since Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich was announced, people have been worried that the cool Face Unlock feature will not be fool-proof. Now, as proven in the video above, the Face Unlock feature can be tricked with a simple photo of the owner. For comparison, face unlock features on Symbian use eye lid movement or need a specific facial expression to unlock the phone. Let’s hope something like this will make its way to Android 4.0, too.

Here is a new video ad featuring the HTC Rezound. The HTC Rezound is the first smart phone to be launched with a 720p display.

Something that slipped through my fingers earlier this week, was the death of Adobe’s Flash Player for mobile. At that same time the company also announced that they will ship one final version of Flash Player for Android.

This day is today, with Adobe releasing Flash Player 11.1. As usual, this update is all about security. It actually plugs 12 critical security flaws in the software.

Sony Ericsson Nozomi

Pictures of the Sony Ericsson LT26i, codenamed Nozomi, have leaked. So far the rumors give Nozomi the following specs:
  • 1.5 Dual Core CPU
  • 4.3-inch 1280×720 screen (320 DPI)
  • 1 GB RAM
  • Shoot full-res stills and 1080p video simultaneously
  • Front facing camera
  • Running Gingerbread 2.3.5

The Nozomi will probably be released with Android 2.3.5, and updated to Android 4.0 ICS shortly after the release.

We’re expecting to see the Nozomi announced at MWC 2012, and released in March thereafter. We don’t know if this device will be branded Sony, or Sony Ericsson. This device is still developed by Sony Ericsson, and not by Sony. The first Sony developed devices will see the light of day in late 2012.

HTC Desire S greySeveral UK owners have reported that they’ve seen their HTC Desire S updated to Android 2.3.5. The update can be downloaded as an over-the-air update. HTC has packed their newest HTC Sense 3.0 user interface in the updated bits, so you’ll see something that resembles that what you see on a HTC Sensation.

As usual, great work HTC on bringing updates fast!

Samsung Italy has apparently said in an interview to Italian HDBlog that the company is working on bringing Android 4.0 ICS to many current and future smartphones.
The spokesperson mentioned at least the following devices: Galaxy S II, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Tab 10.1, Galaxy Tab 8.9, Galaxy Tab 7.7, and Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus.

This is great news to hear! Let’s hope that they test the update before they start the delivery. We’ve seen too many update fiascos in the past.
