Symbian Latino posted the image you see above, which is claimed to be taken at a Nokia Developer Day somewhere in Mexico. The image shows Nokia’s future updates to Symbian, with the mystical Carla and Donna names popping up.

The information in the super-blurry image is a bit hard to read, but it looks to include the following:

Carla

  • 8.0 Browser
  • Dolby surround
  • NFC
  • Best Widgets

Donna

  • Exclusive Dual core Equipment

Donna is expected to be the final major update to Symbian. Symbian Latino stated that Carla is targeted for a late 2012 or early 2013 release. Apparently every Symbian^3 device will receive Carla, while Donna will only be made available for future hardware.

We heard rumors of the Nokia 900 ‘Ace’ just one day before the start of Nokia World 2011. The world was waiting for it, but Nokia didn’t release it. Now, new renders of this have maybe leaked. We don’t know for sure if this is the real deal, or just a fake. Hit View Post to see the rest of the renders.

Google jumped the gun a bit faster than expected when they today released the source code of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Earlier rumors suggested that we’ll see the source code released on November 17th. The source code can be obtained from the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) repository.

The released of the source code luckily means that work on the next version of 3rd party Android modifications can begin. I think it is safe to say that work on CyanogenMod 9 has now also began. Smart phone manufacturers can now also start porting their software and prepare to release updates to bring Android 4.0 on board their devices.

Nokia BL-5C

Researcher at Northwestern University claim to have improved the lithium ion battery to be ten times more powerful than current batteries. The battery is also said to charge ten times faster than what we have today.

The only downside with the new battery is that it degenerates much faster, and can withstand roughly 150 full charge cycles. Then again, if it holds ten times the amount of today’s batteries, it obviously wouldn’t need to be recharged as often. Does a battery today withstand 1500 full charge cycles? I think not.

The target is to get the new battery technology into consumer products in three to five years.

Check out this video by Pocketnow, where they take a look at the hardware of the gorgeous Nokia Lumia 800.

They summarize it quite impressively:

The single piece of polycarbonate plastic feels great in the hand and the shape of the device with its curved screen is pretty incredible

The sixth in a series of in depth videos looking at the Nokia Lumia 800 and some of its best features.

In this film, we look at IE9 and Bing integration, demonstrating just how easy and fast it is to have the web at your fingertips. With Bing search and IE9 on the Lumia 800 it’s easy to not only stay connected and up-to-date but also to search and browse online!

Samsung and Microsoft have teamed up to produce the ad above featuring the Samsung Focus Flash, or Samsung Omnia W as the world outside of the States know it. Check it out!

Nokia Lumia 800 black

The Nokia Lumia 800 will be available in Europe in just a few days. In US, the situation is different. So far Nokia hasn’t told about their plans for the States. Now, we have a new report from WinRumors indicating that the Lumia 800 launch in the States will happen in early 2012.

According to their sources, we’ll see the Lumia 800 launched with a radio ready for AT&T’s network. This would mean that the Lumia 800 is the first LTE capable Windows Phone. For LTE  to work, we’ll probably need Microsoft to release the next version of Windows Phone, currently called ‘Tango’. Another possibility is that Nokia alters Mango in a way for it to work with an LTE radio, but I find this a bit too complicated.

We’re expecting Nokia and Microsoft to jointly announce this device at CES in January, 2012.

iPhone 4S iOS 5.0.1 low battery

Ever since iOS 5 was released, users have been complaining about decreased battery performance on their iPhones. Most complaints have come from iPhone 4S owners, but also some owners of older hardware have noticed drastic decreases in battery life. iOS 5.0.1 was supposed to fix this issue, but new reports indicate that this wasn’t the case for everyone. Let’s hope Apple gets it together, and releases iOS 5.0.2 soon!

My Nokia Blog noticed that Damian Dinning, one of those behind the N8′s camera, is currently working on bringing a software update for the N9 and Lumia 800. He simply tweeted that he is working on a software update to both devices, but didn’t go into detail on what this will bring.

Damian Dinning’s tweet:

working on sw updates to both to improve performance, no further details for now.

We don’t have a date, or an estimate, on when this will be released, but it is still good to know that something is coming!
