A masterpiece from this year’s Super Bowl. Samsung’s ad continues with their Apple-bashing theme we’ve seen in a few ads before. This time they’re putting the Samsung Galaxy Note in the spotlight.

Brandon Watson and Jonne Eilimö

Brandon Watson and Jonne Eilimö

A few days ago there were some rumors that Brandon Watson will leave Microsoft. Unfortunately these turned out to be true, and Brandon confirmed these later via his Twitter account. A Microsoft spokesperson said that February 6th will be Brandon’s last day at Microsoft.

The rumors are true. The team is in great hands. I’ll miss working on #wpdev. I will the community, but won’t be a stranger.

Brandon was the head of Windows Phone Developer Experience, and a real asset to the whole WP developer community. I’m sad to hear him leave the company. I’ve personally met him at a developer meeting during TechEd 2010 in Berlin, Germany. He was really inspiring and is someone who will be missed by WP developers around the world.

At Amazon, he’ll be the Director of the Kindle Cross Platform team. Maybe he’ll even work on some phone project Amazon has coming? Will it run Android or Windows Phone? It will be interesting to see what he’ll actually do!

Nokia Champagne WP7

Nokia Champagne WP7

What you see above could be the first leaked image of the Nokia Champagne. The image comes courtesy of MSNerd, who has earlier proven a valid source for Microsoft leaks.

MSNerd posted the image on Twitter, and labeled it “two turkeys”.  Earlier, the “two turkeys” was used by Google’s Vic Gundotra when the Nokia and Microsoft deal was announced back in February, 2011. Back then the Tweet read, “Two turkeys do not make an Eagle”. This leads us to believe that the leaked device is connected to both Nokia and Microsoft.

The screen is curved just like on the Nokia Lumia 800 and the N9, but what is different, is the dead area around the screen. The screen is bigger, while the bezel around it is smaller. The device is also Champagne colored, so it could be what is currently known as the Nokia Champagne.

Here’s a video showing Corning’s vision for the future with technology and glass. It is titled “A Day Made of Glass 2: Unpacked.” For those of you who don’t know what Corning is famous of, it is the Gorilla Glass that so many of today’s manufacturers use to make smartphone screens scratch proof.

The original video was release a year ago, and it has already generated over 17.3 million hits!

Here is the description of the new video:

Watch and share “A Day Made of Glass 2: Unpacked,” to see how Corning’s highly engineered glass, with companion technologies, will help shape our world. Take a journey with our narrator for details on these technologies, answers to your questions, and to learn about what’s possible — and what’s not — in the near future.

Pocketnow has made a pretty comprehensive browser comparison between Android 4.0 and Windows Phone 7.5. They do all the usual speed tests, and also a few basic webpage renderings.

Android 4.0 is what runs on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, while Nokia Lumia 710 is in charge of the Windows Phone 7.5 part. As you probably know, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus has a dual-core CPU running at 1.2GHz, while the Nokia Lumia 710 has a single-core CPU running at 1.4GHz. I’m amazed of the speed the Lumia 710 actually runs! The Galaxy Nexus is many times more expensive than the Lumia 710, and still the only advantage it gets, is when a webpage has Flash content.

Waterproof iPhone 3GS

Waterproof iPhone 3GS

Rumors are flying around all the time. Some of these prove to be correct, while the majority are just products of someone’s imagination. The newest rumor comes apparently from an anonymous tipster working for a large UK retailer, who claims that both the Apple iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S III will be waterproof.

The waterproof will not be achieved in the usual way by sealing the case, but by applying a special nano coating covering the chips, which then would be impenetrable by water.

Apple doesn’t have a waterproof product on the market, but Samsung has a selection of mobile phones that are waterproof. The Samsung Galaxy Xcover for instance is IP67 certified, meaning that it can last 30 minutes in 1m deep water.

With every manufacturer competing with who has the thinnest smartphone available, is it possible that we’ll see a flagship that is waterproof?

Samsung Galaxy S II Android 4.0.3

Samsung Galaxy S II Android 4.0.3

A new official Android Ice Cream Sandwich build has leaked for the Samsung Galaxy S II. The I9100XXLPB is based on Android 4.0.3. This new build comes bundled with Samsung’s TouchWiz UI, which replaces the stock Android 4.0 UI. I’d say that I prefer the stock Android 4.0 over Samsung’s TouchWiz, but I guess that not everyone feels this way.

With the build being pretty stable, it’s possible that Samsung is in the final stages in bringing this to the public. Some have even suggested that they’ll release this at Mobile World Congress. Q1 2012 has earlier been confirmed for the availability.
