Nokia Lumia 800

Nokia Lumia 800

The Nokia Lumia 800 has yet to reach Finnish borders, but this will luckily change soon enough. Major operators in Finland (DNA, Saunalahti/Elisa, Sonera)  have started to push advertisements of the Lumia 800, with an estimated shipping date of February 1. Every operator mentioned before are now taking pre-orders of the Lumia 800.

Nokia N9 PR1.3

Nokia N9 PR1.3 hint

We wrote yesterday that Nokia is preparing to release PR1.2 for the N9 in the very near future. Now, Director for Applications for MeeGo at Nokia has tweeted that we’ll also see PR1.3 released soon after PR1.2. When asked about the date for PR1.2, he tweeted that it could hit on the “one extra day of the next month”, meaning February 29 :)

Nokia Belle

Nokia Belle

Nokia used their Twitter account today to bring a little surprise for current Nokia Anna owners. They said that the Nokia 500 will get updated with Nokia Belle (earlier Symbian Belle) next week. Nokia has earlier told that the OTA update process will being in early February, so it does come as a little surprise to see it delivered ahead of schedule.

MeeGo users out there can soon celebrate with the release of software version dubbed PR1.2. The update has just started going out to registered N950 developers. It should take roughly a month before the final update will hit N9 owners out there.

We will be shortly releasing a developer edition of MeeGo 1.2 Harmattan 1.2 beta (feel free to crack a joke v 1.2 here) to developers with Nokia N950 Developer Device. The goal of this early access release is to enable developers to verify that their applications do not exhibit any regressions in the new platform version.

This release will be available as a one-click-flasher for Nokia N950 Developer Device. In other words, in order to participate in this beta you need to already have a Nokia N950 Developer Device.

Japanese blog Macotakara claims that Apple is preparing to announce the next generation iPad in early February. Macotakara cited sources from within Apple’s supply chain.

Apple will also use this event to release the final version of iOS 5.1. We’re expecting to see a slightly thicker case, twice bigger battery capacity, a 2,048 x 1,563-pixel HD screen, and  possibly a quad-core CPU inside the iPad 3. A few more weeks to the alleged announcement.

iOS Facebook integration

iOS Facebook integration

iMore has found evidence of a deep Facebook integration coming into iOS. Apple added Twitter support in iOS 5, so it is great to see that we could see Facebook in the next major version of iOS.

Twitter user @jackoplane is the one who found code indicating the Facebook integration in the iPad version of iOS 5.1 beta 3. It remains to be seen if it will actually be added in iOS 5.1, or if Apple will save it for a future version.

As our frequent readers will know, I’ve been in student exchange in Bangkok, Thailand for the past five months. This period in my life has now come to an end, and I’m going back to Finland. I’m currently at the International Airport in Bangkok, waiting for my flight back to Finland. After roughly 11 hours on a plane, I’ll continue my journey for another 5 hours by car to Vaasa.

I’ll be back in FULL force on Wednesday. Those of you who read this site before my exchange will remember that I tried to post up to 10 posts every day, obviously depending on the happenings in the mobile world. I’m happy to say that this same pace will continue now when I’m back in Finland! Thank you for staying with me through this time-wise ‘difficult’ time.
