Apple A6 SoC: dual-core CPU, tri-core GPU During its keynote last week, Apple promised the iPhone 5 would provide twice the processing power and twice the graphics of the iPhone 4S. Early tests reveal these estimates are quite true, but what exactly makes this possible? UBM Tech Insigts took some diffusion imaging of the Apple A6 processor, and revealed that the new SoC is powered by two CPU cores and three GPU cores. Hit View Post for a component listing. ...

Apple iPhone 5 (black & white) The iPhone 5 will be available in Finland on September 28th, but we’re still waiting for official pricing and deals via carriers. However, one of the largest carriers in Finland yesterday accidentally made its iPhone 5 pricing public. Sonera’s leak reveals that an unlocked iPhone 5 will sell from 679 to 899 EUR, depending on the configuration. When bought with a 2-year Sonera contract, the price of the device itself will vary from 600 to 792 EUR. A contract is obviously needed with the prices...
London Underground iOS 6 mocking There’s a pretty great image being ReTweeted over and over again on Twitter. The image shows that someone working for the London Underground has a great sense of humor with the following text written in the additional information box: For the benefit of passengers using Apple iOS 6, local area maps are available from the booking office. Apple’s new Maps app has taken a lot of heat since its release in iOS 6 on Wednesday. iOS 6 users are left with incorrect routes, missing cities or otherwise...
Maps apps benchmarked: Nokia Lumia 920, Samsung Galaxy S III, Apple iPhone 5 Maps has been a hot topic in the mobile field for the past few weeks. All this talk started when Apple decided not to use Google maps in the native iOS maps application, but an in-house version of this based on maps by TomTom. Apple was loud to announce that the new maps will be awesome, and everyone sort of thought this was true. Well, yesterday when iOS 6 was released, early adopters were pretty disappointed by the new Apple maps. We’ve seen and heard...

The iPhone 4S managed to crunch the code in 2250ms, while the iPhone 4 did it in 3545ms. Sunspider Javascript...
iPhone 5 Apple today announced that it has sold 2 million iPhone 5s in the first 24 hours. AT&T told earlier today that the iPhone 5 launch was the company’s most successful iPhone launch to date. Roughly a year ago when the iPhone 4S was announced, Apple sold 1 million units in the first 24 hours. Even further down the history-lane, the iPhone 4 sold 600,000 units in the first 24 hours. iPhone 5 pre-orders have shattered the previous record held by iPhone 4S and the customer response to iPhone 5 has been phenomenal,” said Philip...
Apple iPhone 5 A6 SoC When Apple announced the iPhone 5, it left us in the dark regarding some specs like the processor and RAM memory. Anandtech have now done a bit of digging, and revealed that the new Apple A6 System-on-Chip is Apple’s own design, and manufactured by Samsung. The A6 is using math units too new to be found in an ARM Cortex-A9 design, but still doesn’t include those found in a soon-to-be-released Cortex-A15 design. Anandtech also writes that the new design comes with 1GB of DRAM, clocked at 1,066MHz. The DRAM...
Apple iPhone 5 parts cost estimate An early estimate by UBM Techinsights show that the iPhone 5 parts only cost Apple $167.50. The estimates are obviously made without actually tearing the device apart, hence leaving room for error. Still, if the estimate is even nearly correct, Apple has managed to create a moneymaking machine never seen before. The iPhone 4S price tag is about $36 lower, but keep in mind that it’s already a year old. Wait for a final teardown for a more accurate estimate. ...
