We already know that the new iPhone will be announced on September 12th, but many were thinking that the iPad mini will get unveiled at this same event. John Gruber of the Daring Fireball thinks that this isn’t the case, and Apple will not waste the publicity that the new iPhone’s launch will create, and release the iPad mini at a separate event possibly in October.
Apple will create a massive amount of publicity when the new iPhone is released. Reviews and opinions will be coming in from your doors and windows. Apple would not wan’t to share this publicity with something, especially not something that they’ve created, and hence announce the new product at a later time. October is usually when Apple holds their annual music event, and an iPad mini and new iPod could very well be announced then.
John Gruber wrote the following:
First, an iPhone event, focused solely on the new iPhone and iOS 6. Then, the iPhone ships nine days later, and there’s another wave of iPhone-focused attention as the reviews come out. Then, in the first or second week of October, Apple holds its traditional “music event”, exactly along the lines of the events at which they’ve been debuting new iPods for the last decade.
Interesting enough, the guy never mentions an iPad mini by the name. Instead he calls it the iPad Air. This is the first time we’ve seen that name mentioned. Could be be spot-on on this prediction, too?
