Nokia N8 - Aluminum Black Orange Blue Green

As you all should know by now, the Nokia N8 started shipping today. The first users have already received their phones, and also posted initial reactions on forums around the world. I decided to grab a few reactions of users in Finland, from matkapuhelinfoorumi.info.

I’ve freely translated the Finnish posts into English.

Voimalaturi:

  • Very good camera, powerful flash (for a mobile phone)
  • A dedicated GPU and a big AMOLED screen make it into a good navigator – the screen is bright and the map moves smoothly, voice-navigation commands come on time
  • Sturdy build quality, refreshing colors
  • On the negative side, he commented the theme should have been updated to look different when compared to older Symbian generations

noobie69:

  • Camera quality a disappointment. Images come out blurry.

calle76:

  • Very positive experience, especially the camera is good.

Rickhard:

  • The plastic cover on top makes a clicking sound. Nothing else to complain after 2 hrs usage. Great feeling when using it :)

Wheez:

  • Image and video editing causing small lagging.
  • Ovi Store is working well.
  • Positively impressed by the screen. Sensitivity is high and it looks great.
  • Logical placement in the UI. The widget screen is a better alternative when compared to the icon placement of the iPhone.
  • Could praise the whole device in general. Haven’t found anything to complain about.

So to summarize that, people are happy with their Nokia N8′s :) Good job Nokia!

Nokia X3-02 Pre-orders

Nokia just updated their Finnish site and put up pre-orders for the X3-02 Touch and Type. The image above shows that it will be available in “Lokakuu 2010″, which in English would translate into October, 2010. Those of you who want to get this device will have to pay 179€ (23% VAT included).

The Nokia X3-02 Touch and Type is the first candybar phone from Nokia that comes with a touchscreen and regular keyboard.

You can see Niklas Savander, Executive Vice President of Nokia, talk about the Nokia N8 shipping and worldwide availability. The first ones who have pre-ordered the N8 should receive their phone in before the weekend.

Angry Birds for iPhone got today updated to version 1.4.2. It comes with the following changes:

Nokia today announced that the N8 actually began shipping today, September 30th. The factories that began shipping today are located in Beijing, China and Salo, Finland.

Espoo, Finland -Nokia’s latest entertainment smartphone, the highly anticipated Nokia N8 with Ovi services, has started shipping. Customers who have placed a pre-order for the Nokia N8 in Nokia Online Shops and Nokia retail stores will be the first to receive their Nokia N8. Market availability will vary by country and by operator, with broad availability in the coming weeks.

A Nokia Retail Specialist told me a few weeks ago that the Nokia N8 will be available in our store on October 14th. This could very well be the day that it is available at retailers. The first ones who have made a pre-order should receive the N8 before the weekend.

HTC Desire White

Doesn’t that phone look good? It’s a white HTC Desire, and I think it looks awesome! The white HTC Desire and silver HTC Wildfire is up for pre-ordering in UK.

The white HTC Desire will start shipping on October 1st.

Hit View Post for a silver HTC Wildfire.

Nokia continues to break records with their N8 marketing campaign. They previously teamed up with the guys behind Wallace and Gromit to make the world’s smallest smallest stop animation film.

This time they break a new record with world’s largest cinema screen! It was put up in Rosengård, Sweden, and it was 28 m high and 51 m wide. Multiply that and you get a screen of 1428 square meters.  The screen was used to show Price of Persia with the Nokia N8. The phone was connected via its HDMI-output to four XLM HD30-projectors (140kg each).

Pretty cool! Another image after the break.

Apple iPhone 4 Black

We just heard that Elisa will sell the unlocked iPhone 4 for as cheap as 589€ for the 16GB version, and the bigger 32GB version for 689€. Both versions are carrier unlocked, and include a 23% VAT.

If you are planning a trip to Finland and want an unlocked iPhone 4, you need to pay 479€ (VAT 0%) for the 16GB version, and 560€ for the 32GB (VAT 0%) version.

iPhone 4 Elisa Finland

Elisa, a large operator here in Finland, just announced on their site that they will soon get the iPhone 4! This is the first time that you can buy an unlocked iPhone here in Finland.

TeliaSonera (TeleFinland and Sonera) has previously been the only operator to sell any iPhones, and they’ve always sold them locked to their network. Now with Elisa, we will get the first carrier unlocked phones. Veli-Matti Mattila, Elisa’s CEO, told this today to Kauppalehti, a Finnish business newspaper.

Kauppalehti also got a confirmation that sales will begin as early as September 30th – in just two days! No word on how much the unlocked version will cost you, but be sure to read it from here immediately when the price is available :)
