Nokia N8 – Sneak Peek

Full Specs for the recently announced Nokia N8. Don’t know about you guys, but this looks really interesting on the hardware side.


Nokia today announced the Nokia N8 smartphone, and together with this the whole new Symbian^3 platform.

The Nokia N8 will come with a 12 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and Xenon flash. The phone is also capable to record high definition video and edit it with a smart built-in edition suite. A 3.5″ HD capacitive touchscreen will ensure a good image quality also in video playback. A HDMI-connector will let you plug your N8 into a HD TV.

The phone has 16GB built-in storage, and is extendable to 48GB with a microSD card. In addition to these, we’ll also see a GPS, FM transmitter, 3G, Bluetooth, microUSB and b/g/n WiFi.

It will cost €370 before taxes and subsidies, and will be in stores in 3Q2010.

The official Weather Channel application for Android just got updated to version 2.3.14.The update brings new graphics, new desktop widgets, ‘Did you know? weather facts and TruPoint Nowcasts. Together with these also the ad banner is smaller, battery life enhancements and ‘quicker load times’.

Microsoft will push firmware updates to Windows Phone 7, without them ever passing a carrier’s or a manufacturer’s testing. Smaller updates will be pushed as OTA(Over-The-Air) updates over 3G or WiFi, while bigger ones will be distributed via the Zune Software.

This is very good for the end user, since there will be no lag between the update release and when it will be available via your own carrier.

We just started the private betas and we are really looking forward to getting these technologies into your hands as soon as possible. There are going to be so many interesting things that you will be able to do on Android and there are also going to be many new skills that you will need to learn, especially if you are new to mobile design. One thing that will help you tremendously is to learn more about optimizing content for mobile devices. There are separate sign-up pages for Flash Player 10.1 and Adobe AIR 2.0 so go on over and get registered. Unfortunately I can’t give any information about the specific dates for the betas.

All you out there that are eager to get their hands on Flash Player 10.1 for Android, can head over to Adobe’s registration page for a beta sign-up. Flash Player 10.1 is currently in private beta, but you’ll be notified when it hits ‘public’ beta-testers.

Any of you still wondering what’s the difference between Microsoft’s Kin One and Kin Two? Here is a short comparison on the specs of both phones:

Size:

Both phones are manufactured by Sharp. Kin Two is heavier than the Kin One, 130 grams compared to 110 grams on the Kin One. Both devices are about 20mm, but the Kin Two is much wider at 108mm compared to 84mm. Kin One has a 2.5″ screen(QVGA 320×240), compared to Kin Two with a 3.5″ screen(HVGA 480×320).
Internals:

Microsoft Windows Phone 6 Starter Edition will run on a 600MHz CPU with 256MB of RAM. The Kin Two comes with 8GB of storage, and Kin One with 4GB. Kin Two comes with a great 8MP camera with flash and video recording of 720p video, while the Kin Two comes with a 5MP camera with flash but no HD video.

Both come with a-GPS, FM Radio, Bluetooth and WiFi. A 1390mAh battery power the Kin Two, while a 1240mAh battery powers the Kin One.
