microUSB connector on the Nokia N900 prone to failure?

There is a discussion going on over at Nokia Support forums and Maemo Talk, about the microUSB connector on the Nokia N900. According to the threads in there, the microUSB connector gets misaligned, or disconnected completely. Some of the users haven’t gotten this fixed via the warranty, while the others have. A statement from Nokia would help this.

The problem is that the microUSB connector is a surface mount part, so it’s just lead that connects the microUSB connector to the PCB. To solve this, the whole connector should be changed to a through-hole design, which means that the connector is sort of anchored to the PCB.

Read a thorough analysis of the problem here.
