Nokia's new way of naming explained, C-series and S-series

Mark from thenokiablog has translated a post made by Tom’s Guide, that explained the new way Nokia name’s their new series.

  • C: lower end and voice-based
  • X: focus on entertainment, music for a young target
  • E: dedicated to business, solutions for e-mails
  • N: High-end
  • S: very upscale and limited editions

After the first letter would follow a number sequence in the form of #-##. So for instance the Nokia C5 phone that leaked a few days ago, is actually C5-00. And as you can see from this image, the C5 leak that we wrote about had the text C5-00 printed on the back, and C5 on the front.

  • Nokia C5-00 – Basic business device with GPS. Expected June.
  • Nokia C3-00 – A low-cost multitasking Symbian S40 Qwerty device that run emails in the background.
  • Nokia C5-01 – Qwerty device that’s a direct competitor to Blackberry

The Nokia C5-01 is probably the same phone that we previously called Mystic or C6.

The new series names will most probably be announced at Mobile World Congress starting next Monday.
