Nexus One – the official Google phone coming in January 2010

The Google phone is real, and will be called Nexus One! Google’s employees around the world have gotten their hands on the long rumored Google Phone. The phone will be manufactured by HTC, and designed by Google. This phone will be to Google what the iPhone is to Apple, since Google dictates every little bit of the phone from the hardware to the software. You will not see any carrier modified Nexus One phones, since it’s Googles will that the phone always comes unlocked. Here is what is knows of the phone at the moment:
- Will run on Android 2.1
- High resolution AMOLED screen
- Qualcomm Snapdragon processor that is said to be “really, really fast”
- Two mics, one in the back to reduce background noise(technology used in for instance the Nokia BH-904)
- “Weirdly” large camera
- Voice to Text -feature
The phone will be released in 1Q2010
Google is building their own branded phone that theyll sell directly and through retailers. They were long planning to have the phone be available by the holidays, but it has now slipped to early 2010. The phone will be produced by a major phone manufacturer but will only have Google branding (Microsoft did the same thing with their first Zunes, which were built by Toshiba).
There wont be any negotiation or compromise over the phones design of features Google is dictating every last piece of it. No splintering of the Android OS that makes some applications unusable. Like the iPhone for Apple, this phone will be Googles pure vision of what a phone should be.
