sony-ericsson-aino

Sony Ericsson suffered today another setback, when the Aino was suspended in the United Kingdom. About one week ago also their Satio phone was suspended.

The reason behind this is the high return-rate on the phone, but the problems are software related. This is good news for Sony Ericsson since it can be fixed with a firmware update.

LG today announced the LG BL40 New Chocolate: Christmas Edition. The Christmas Edition has a better camera, some gold figures on the case and a chance to win over 5 Million Korean Won in prizes(about 3100€). The camera is a 8MP AF instead of the 5MP that was seen in the original edition. No word on pricing or availability yet, but it’s highly doubtful that we’ll see it anywhere else than in South Korea.

swype

Swype will revolutionize the way you type on a touchscreen device, that is if you believe the developers os Swype. It will work by analyzing the pattern that you swipe on the screen, and will guess a word out of this. Take a look at the image above, if it still is unclear how this thing works ;)

The technique is developed by the same guys that are behind the now widely used T9.

Swype will come bundled in Verizon’s Samsung Omnia II, that will be released in US on December 2nd. And during next year, we’ll most probably see many phones with this feature. It’s interesting to see how this thing turns out.

Check out the demonstration after the break.

AdMob released their smartphone ad request report of October 2009. Worldwide, the iPhone OS accounted for 50% of ad requests! Symbian came in second with a share of 25%, and Android came in third with 11% share.

In the United States the stats are little bit different. The iPhone OS accounted for 55% of all smartphone ad requests, Android came in second with a share of 20%. So the iPhone and Android accounts for 75% of the market, while all the others share 25% of the market. This is mainly because of the lack of Nokia smartphones on the US market.

google-maps-navigation-layers

A few weeks ago we launched Google Maps Navigation (Beta) as a free feature of Google Maps on Android 2.0 devices. Today we’re expanding availability of Google Maps Navigation to devices running Android 1.6 (Donut) and higher, such as the T-Mobile myTouch 3G and the G1.

The Google Maps Navigation is only available in the US at the moment. It’s possible that this application will not see the light of day in Europe any time soon. Google uses their own maps in the US, when in other parts of the world they use maps from Tele Atlas and NAVTEQ. No official word of this is heard, but it could be at least one of the reasons.
