HTC patents magnetic stylus for capacitive screens

magneticstylus

HTC has filed an interesting patent, a stylus that will also work on capacitive screens.

Today, we have two different types of screens on the market. A resistive screen which requires pressure to work, and then a capacitive screen which requires electric current to work. So a resistive screen needs a stylus, and a capacitive screen requires a finger.

This new stylus patent will combine the two technologies. It will be a normal stylus, but with the addition of a magnetic head. When the magnetic head moves across the screen, it will cause the same electric effect as a finger would.

So in short, this is like a super-thin finger. Sounds like a nice patent to me!
